Tuvaluan House - Fale Matagi

A bamboo Tuvaluan Fale will be built by Queensland University of Technology students guided by the Brisbane Tuvaluan community.

Tuvalu is a Pacific island nation threatened with extinction. They have a population density twice that of Singapore, are almost entirely dependent on imports for even basic needs, and inundation from rising sea levels is starting to make their land uninhabitable. Proposals have been made to relocate the entire Tuvaluan population to a site in Australia.

The sustainable Tuvaluan fale will be made of bamboo and built specially for Floating Land. With its thatched roof, floor of woven mats, and open walls exposing an elegant frame, it sits gently on the lakeshore, framing the picturesque view of Lake Cootharaba.
