Shifting Paradigms: Nature & CultureShifting Paradigms: Nature & Culture is a one-day interactive forum involving a panel of local and national experts on nature, society, culture and sustainability, including Chris Darwin, great-great-grandson of Charles Darwin, and renowned performer and writer Robyn Archer. The forum is facilitated by Professor Amareswar Galla (UQ) and Adjunct Professor Peter Bycroft (USC) who are joined by Dr Jason Potts (QUT), Associate Professor Linda Williams (RMIT), sustainability expert Mark Ricketts and local indigenous cultural expert Beverly Hand in presenting a forum exploring the future relationship between society, art, cultural heritage and the environment. A dramatically changing environment and the imperative for sustainability are having a profound impact upon our cultures. Cultural evolution and innovative ways of systems thinking lead to new knowledge, resulting in the development of cultural and creative outputs to adapt to the new paradigm. The panel will address the lessons of human adaptation from our past, our heritage and our relationship with ‘place’, and the link between culture and climate change, with a primary focus on the future and defining the emerging paradigm. The facilitated forum will focus on the issues emerging during the Floating Land art festival and the contributions from the invited panel. It will involve discussion and debate on the international discourse over sustainability, the global, regional and local contexts and communities and their response to significant climatic, economic, social and cultural change.
