“Mobile Media” to create interactive experience at Floating land art event
An initiative of Sunshine Coast Council Libraries, Mobile Media is an exciting new concept set to take place at the Floating Land 10-day art event starting 27 May. Mobile Media will see the transformation of the Mobile Library into a digital world of new media, social networking and technology.
This interactive event will be located at the central site of Boreen Point at Lake Cootharaba and will encourage participants to explore notions of art, creativity, culture and the environment through a global community. Upon entering Mobile Media participants will be introduced to new technologies such as virtual 3D realities, created from photographs taken from the event. Visitors will receive knowledge about social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter and are encouraged to utilise these to connect with the digital community. Onboard the Mobile Media will be five computers connected to the Internet as well as two staff members to help participants with the interaction.
Cooroy Library Assistant Celia Donnellan says Mobile Media is an exciting concept as it is something that has not previously had a presence on the Sunshine Coast. “It’s important that people are aware of the these tools. We’re trying to encourage people to develop the skills to connect socially. These are the benefits of life- to connect the community, both on a local and international level.”
Celia says it was also a great way to promote the libraries and the Sunshine Coast Regional Council. “We’re going to give them an experience and we’re introducing them to what libraries do best, which is technology.”
